Employees at Security First Insurance were stunned to learn about the arrest of a longtime staff accountant accused of embezzling more than $1.5 million from the Ormond Beach-based company. "I was shocked and disappointed and so were her teammates," said Security First President Melissa Burt DeVriese about the Aug. 9 arrest of Samantha Rae Link, 30. Link was employed in the accounting department at Security First, one of the state's largest homeowner insurance providers, for 8½ years. DeVriese said she and Scot Moore, the company's chief accounting officer, became aware of the suspected embezzlement on the morning of July 21 and suspended Link on the spot.
